Tackling drug-related crime and anti-social behaviour

We are working hard to combat drug-related crime and ASB in the City Centre.

We have recently carried out successful warrants at addresses linked to drug use and dealing with positive results, including: Teenager charged and three others arrested in drugs supply enquiry – Bath | Avon and Somerset Police

Officers have also taken part in training alongside Night-Time Economy partners including Door Staff, Suicide Prevention Volunteers and BID Night Marshals on how to identify, and treat drug overdoses using Naloxone

We regularly patrol hotspots identified as locations where use and dealing takes place. We rely heavily on community led intelligence to inform these patrols, as well as support evidence for warrants to go into addresses. You can report your concerns in person or online at Report drug dealing and use | Avon and Somerset Police

Actions

  • 10 December 2024

During the first week of December, together with a number of extra resources from across the Force we delivered a comprehensive week of action focused on VAWG and the Night Time Economy. Part of this week of action included visiting addresses linked to cuckooing to check on the welfare of the occupants.

During one of these visits NPT officers arrested two men, aged 18, and a 17-year-old boy on Saturday 7 December on suspicion of being concerned in the supply of class A drugs (crack cocaine). They have since been released on bail, with conditions to not enter the Avon and Somerset area.

In the property, they discovered a quantity of class A drugs, suspected to be crack cocaine, and money as well as a bladed article. All of which were seized. The investigation is ongoing.

Since our last update, the City Centre Team have continued to target regular Anti-Social Behaviour offenders.

With help from our ASB Co-ordinators, officers who specialise in dealing with chronic ASB, we have issued several Community Protection Warnings and Notices.

    These have included…

A CPW for a female who was encouraging ASB including street drinking and associated drunken behaviour, where drugs were also being used.

A CPW for a female who was persistently involved in street drinking, shop thefts and public order offences where drugs were also being used.

A CPN for a male who was continually allowing drug users into the communal areas of his building causing damage, mess and distress to other residents.

Two Criminal Behaviour Orders for a male and female who were persistently leaving drugs paraphernalia and other mess in public spaces.

We are also working on closure orders for properties across Bath associated with drugs dealing and use in partnership with our local Housing Agencies.

Recent positive results for the City Centre Team include:

    • The issuing of a Community Protection Notice and a successful recall to prison for a male frequently causing drug related antisocial behaviour and crime in the Kingsmead Square area of Bath. Our ASB Team are now in the process of applying for a Criminal Behaviour Order.
    • We have worked with several partner agencies on the temporary closure of an address in the city centre that was frequently being used for drug supply and linked to acquisitive crime. The resident, a vulnerable male who was being cuckoo’d by several offenders, has now been given emergency housing.

We continue to work towards issuing, and carrying out Warrants on properties associated with drug use and dealing. We have had successes in this department over the past month that have led to arrests and further investigations that are now underway.

We have also worked with a local housing provider to successfully apply for a Court Ordered Injunction on a property in the City Centre linked to drugs related antisocial behaviour, putting several conditions on the occupant including restrictions on visitors allowed at the property.

Warrants like these are not possible without quality information and intelligence provided by members of the public, so we encourage anyone witnessing drug-related ASB to report it to us.
