Clare’s Law – Domestic Violence Disclosure Scheme

The Domestic Violence Disclosure Scheme, also known as Clare’s Law, enables the police to disclose information to a victim or potential victim of domestic abuse about their partner’s or ex-partner’s previous abusive or violent behaviour.

You can make a Domestic Violence Disclosure application if you:

• think you might be at risk of domestic abuse from a current or ex-partner
• are worried about someone you know, and think they may be at risk of domestic abuse from a current or ex-partner
• are a professional and you have information that suggests an individual might be at risk of domestic abuse from a current or ex-partner

A disclosure will only be made if we determine there is a credible risk of violence or harm, and the disclosing of information is necessary to prevent that person from being a victim of a crime.

If you are making the application on behalf of someone else, we cannot make the disclosure to you. We can only make a disclosure to the person who is at risk, in order to support and help safeguard them.
