Date of request: 9 September 2020

Request
This is a FOI request to ask how many staff members in your force have received unconscious bias training in each of the last five years.
Response
Please see below the information we have identified in relation to your request.
‘Taking the Hurt out of Hate’ was a training package for operational staff and all operational officers as well as leaders which included Unconscious Bias training.
Our leadership team also developed a discrete Unconscious Bias training package based on the work of Prof Steve Peters which they have delivered at various times including in one of the national CPD weeks. We have identified 46 people who received this training package in 2017, however this is not an accurate number as the details for 2018 and 2019 are not recorded. This number is also not included in the table below.
Stop Search and Taking the Hurt out of Hate is incorporated within Initial Police Learning and Development Programme (IPLDP), Police Constable Degree Apprenticeship (PCDA) and Police Community Support Officer (PCSO) training for new officer recruits. In addition we also cover it from a data recording perspective within the same training.
Please find below a breakdown of all officers and staff that have attended this training. The data provided below has been recorded since the introduction of the Licensed Search Officers (LSO) training system in 2016.
2016 | 910 |
2017 | 493 |
2018 | 167 |
2019 | 186 |
2020 | 34 |
Please note that the figures provided for the years 2019 and 2020 are for officers only and do not include staff.
