I am looking to request information on the number of non-crime hate incidents recorded each year:
- Please can you provide an annual breakdown of non-crime hate incidents (NCHIs) recorded for each year from 2014 (or earliest possible year) to 2024. For 2024, please provide up until the date of response.
- Please can you provide an annual breakdown of the NCHIs recorded for each year from 2014 (or earliest possible year) to 2024 by characteristic (i.e. religion, race etc.). For 2024, please provide up until the date of response.
Response
The first table below shows a breakdown of non-crime hate incidents by year, since 2014. This includes occurrences recorded as crimes initially, but which have subsequently been recorded as ‘no crime’ or ‘non recordable’.
This has been broken down further by motivation type in the second table below, as requested in question 2.
Please note that as more than one hate motivation strand may be recorded for each incident, the total of this further breakdown will be higher than the total incidents shown in the first table.
Data for 2024 is correct as of the date of research, 20 November 2024.
