Response

The information requested in questions 1 – 9 is not held for 2018. Data has therefore been provided from January 2019 to July 2024.

For questions 2, 5 and 8 we have interpreted ‘responded’ to mean calls attended; in a broader sense, we respond to all calls.

For questions 4, 5 and 6, we have provided information by local authority area, as we do not hold data by county as requested.

In response to questions 1, 2, 4, 5, 7 and 8, please see the attachment ‘988-24 Disclosure 1’.

The first table in this attachment shows a count of calls recorded between January 2019 and July 2024 with a mental health qualifier, broken down by month and by local authority area. This is in response to questions 1 and 4.

To the right of that first table, you will see a breakdown of those calls recorded as having been attended, in answer to questions 2 and 5.

The second row of tables on this attachment contain the same breakdowns described above, but for calls where the mental health qualifier is recorded as ‘Youth Related (under 18)’. This is in response to questions 7 and 8.

In response to questions 3, 6 and 9, please see the attachment, ‘988-24 Disclosure 2’.

The first table in this attachment shows recorded detainments under Section 136, broken down by month and by local authority area, in response to questions 3 and 6.

The second table shows this breakdown for under 18s, as requested in question 9.

Regarding question 10, Avon and Somerset Police have identified procedural guidance relating to “Concern for Safety Right Care Right Person” It was introduced on 14 June 2024. Further information is available at the following link:
