Police offer parents support following sexual assault arrest

Parents with any concerns following the arrest of a man for sex offences against children are being offered expert help and support by police and North Somerset Council's Local Safeguarding Children's Board.

A dedicated incident room has been set up. Parents wishing to discuss the matter, or who may have information they wish to provide, should call the police on 101 or email: joist@avonandsomerset.police.uk

An officer from the investigation team will call them back as soon as possible, or by 10am the next working day.

A 50-year-old man from the Bristol area was arrested on Monday December 13 following allegations of a sexual nature.

He appeared at North Somerset Magistrates Court on Wednesday Dec 15 where he was remanded in custody until December 22.

Under the Sexual Offence Act 2003 he was charged with:

  • Two counts of sexual activity against a child under 13 years old.
  • Two counts of adult abuse of a position of trust in Section 21 premises.

Police say it is important to stress that this is an incident involving one accused person.

Investigations are continuing and it would be inappropriate to comment further at this stage.
