Crimestoppers is an independent charity that operates across the UK to help fight crime. Built on the basis of a partnership between the police, the community and media, it is an invaluable service that enables anyone with details of criminal activity to pass them on to the police anonymously, without fear of exposure or retribution.

Every call is treated with absolute anonymity so that nobody will know the identity of the caller. You will not be asked your name, your call will not be traced or recorded and you do not have to give a statement or go to court.

Rewards are available for callers who provide information leading to the arrest and charge of a suspect. Rewards are paid without compromising a caller's anonymity. Nationally, less than 2% of people who could claim a reward actually do.

Since Crimestoppers began in 1988, nationally it has received more than one million calls with useful information, resulting in over 89,768 arrests and charges. Over £104 million worth of property has been recovered as well as drugs with a street value of over £164 million.

Avon and Somerset Constabulary was among the first to take the idea on board, setting up West Country Crimestoppers in 1990. Since then, the scheme has supported many local initiatives, such as Operation Bumblebee, the anti-burglary initiative, Impact, the Force's unique crackdown on vehicle crime, and Trident, the multi-agency strategy for tackling illegal drugs. It currently supports Operation Relentless, the Force's biggest ever campaign to target criminals and is regularly used to appeal for help in major inquiries.

West Country Crimestoppers is part of the Crimestoppers Trust, which is an independent registered charity and a company limited by guarantee. Crimestoppers relies heavily on voluntary donations.
